I stand 100% behind my original assessment of Sarah Palin. If she were the kind of person who rolls over and surrenders because the cool kids made fun of her then she wouldn't be the Governor of Alaska. More than anything else it's determination and will that is the mark of greatness. And there will be no sucker-punch from Katy Couric the next time around.

The shortsightedness of effete liberals and their propensity for self congratulation still continue to amaze me. They talk about how diverse and nuanced the world is but they never seem to think that’s it’s so nuanced or diverse than an educated and intelligent person could look at the same evidence that they do and come to a different conclusion.
In Sarah’s case, they look at one bad interview she did and think it is an accurate representation of an entire career. They are happy to leap to that conclusion because it conveniently matches all their pre-existing biases. But these biases distort their view and show them the world through a twisted lens. It’s a filter over their every thought and deed and it keeps them from seeing the real world as it is. Obama says “um” in the middle of the sentence and they call it a contemplative pause, she says “um” in the middle of a sentence and they call it evidence of her thoughtlessness. Because their politics is based on their insecurity about themselves, they need those two to be very different things, and they will go to great lengths to try and make you believe that too.
In order to leap to such a broad conclusion on so little information about Sarah Palin, they need to ignore a lifetime of evidence to the contrary. They’re dealing in the politics of self-congratulation so to them that doesn’t seem like a problem, but to others it makes them look shallow, vain, and silly. They can’t address an opposing view seriously because they don’t dare. To admit that another view might make sense would involve them facing all their personal demons. And that’s something no liberal can do. If they could, then they would probably be conservatives. So instead they stick to dismissing the argument without ever addressing it substantively.
I used to think that it was a reflection on me that I was always willing to try to educate a liberal a little. But now I realize that in many cases it’s simply not worth it. They can’t face themselves let alone the world, so if they won’t discuss something seriously, it’s usually better to just ignore them. I wish that liberals had something relevant to say, but all too often they simply don’t.
Ahh you beat me too it.
I was going to put this up tommorrow.
Hat tip to you.
C'mon - there are better qualified conservatives than Sarah Palin. This is a kneejerk reaction to her rejection. We need the best and the brightest to lead us. She is neither.
Actually I would say that it's more likely that your reaction is the knee jerk. You've formed your view of her character from what the media showed you. But even if you were right (and to be honest I don't think you are), I've spent enough time around geniuses to know that they are wrong about things every bit as often as anyone else. "Best and brightest" ain't worth what you think it is. And All politicians look pretty dim to me.
I've seen some of the smartest people in the world be horribly demonstrably wrong about the singular issues in their lives. When it comes to people who will be in positions of power, intelligence isn't worth as much as someone with character and firm guiding principles.
They say Nixon was the smartest president in the 20th century. Carter was a nuclear engineer. People go on and on about how smart John Kerry and Al Gore are. For my money you can keep em.
Best and brightest doesn't look all that great from here.
