- Atlas Shrugged Trailer

With GE, Google, the banks and the labor unions spending billions on rent seeking, and the Obama Whitehouse behaving like a wholly owned subsidiary, the timing really couldn't be better for this movie. The book is arguably one of the most compelling stories of the 20th century, but so far it doesn't look like much.

I hope the movie isn't as boring as the trailer.

I read that the budget was only $15 million, which seems pretty small for a full length feature film.

Curious how the movie will turn out. The trailer showed some pretty goods sets.

It looks like they're not doing it in the period that the book was set. It seems odd because key parts of the book involve long distance passenger rail which would be Amtrak nowadays. If they were going to make it present-day, the Taggarts' business should have been air transport and Rearden metal should be some kind of improved aluminum rather than an improved steel.

I'd rather they change some of those superficial details as long as the important points get across. And there must be a way to get those points across more efficiently than the book did.

I read up some more on the movie whilst having my morning coffee:

A plot device used is that petroleum is extremely expensive, making rail far more competitive as a means of moving materials and manpower.

You can argue about if that plot device is valid... but the reasons for the importance of rail is a minor plot point compared to the overall theme of the movie.

I am just happy they found writers / directors that (at least from what I have read) respect for the author's ideas and visions.. even though they may or may not fully agree with them.

If you want to see what happens when the director has no respect or understanding of an author's work, rent 'Starship Troopers'. It was an absolute piece of Sci-Fi excrement.. making a complete hash of Heinlein's vision.

Actually that device might work well since it seems to be a chief priority of the left to make oil as expensive as possible. And I'm sure they'll be a ton of overlap with the Obama agenda if they're not afraid to make it.

I still think the clip looks dull though.
