- Oh Grow Up Please.....

Nicholas Krtisfof dredges up every single BS liberal talking point designed to scare the idiot NY Times reader into badgering House Republicans into making a deal with Democrats. (As if a NY Times reader would know any Republicans.) You've heard most of them before I'm sure, but this one is my personal favorite:

Republicans have historically been more focused on national security threats than Democrats. Yet what would do more damage to America’s national security than a possible default that might halt paychecks for American military families?

This is nonsense of course. As soon as you stop paying the army, they become nothing more than a bunch of guys with guns. Stop paying the Army, and you know longer have the means to enforce your will. Obama knows that, or if he doesn't, I'm sure someone will explain it to him. Even economic basket case Robert Mugabe who trashed one of Africa's most prosperous nations, knew that he had to pay the army. But not Kristof.

So Kristof is either a shameless scaremonger, a complete imbecile or both. Can you guess my bet?

Kristof may well be both those things--and he of course neglects to mention that Obama could keep paying the military, even without a debt-ceiling increase. But just for the sake of argument, I'll dispute what you say about the army. Most armies might just be a bunch of guys with guns, but not ours, I think. Or at least not for some time--the promise of future payment would likely keep things in order. Soldiers and military families would be insulted and injured in the meantime (again, Obama's responsibility).

After all, it took years without pay for the soldiers and officers of the under-supplied but valiant Continental Army (fighting on home territory) to mount any serious mutiny or threat of it.

This isn't agrarian colonial America where people can live off the land. This is a highly developed modern economy. When the supply chain breaks down you will have shortages of food and a disruption of basic services like water and power.

I come from a family with a long military tradition. I appreciate the quality of our military relative to other armies. But when some spec4 reservist has a 5 year old daughter who hasn't eaten in three days, he's not going to be a soldier as much as he'll be a guy with a gun.

Bet on it.
