- How To Start A Popular Resistance

This is worth a perusal - from Guns Magazine:

Pre-Heller Dan Simpson had a laundry list of demands sure to ignite a civil war, including total civilian disarmament.

Following a “three month amnesty… Special squads of police would be formed… Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and 1 year in prison for each firearm… On the streets it would be a question of stop-and-search of anyone, even grandma with her walker, with the same penalties for ‘carrying.’”

The man mentioned is a former diplomat and has worked in a couple of the worlds worst places including the Congo, the Central African Republic, and Africa's premier vacation destination, Somalia. But that's no big deal. The state department is full of idiots who dream of disarming all Americans. The thing that should concern you, and that does concern me, is the fact that he was also the commandant of the United States Army War College. Based on his views I'd guess that makes him more teacher than soldier, but still.

Keep in mind, none of what he proposes would ever be possible, even if it weren't specifically declared illegal by the highest law of the land. No one could ever pull something like that off. Even if it did work there would then be 100,000,000 people in prison - a third the population. The entire economy would collapse.

Let me make this clear. They couldn't even seize something that we'd all give up willingly. Make possession of a hostess Twinkie a $1,000 fine with 1 year in jail and the results of success would still be totally self defeating. What he proposes is impossible even if America's gun owners put up no resistance whatsoever.

But suppose they surprised us with it. Suppose they really did begin their search and seizure plan. They can't do it all at once, there is too much ground to cover. So it would have to be done in many small stages. They'd probably get away with it fine the first time - ex-post lawsuits notwithstanding. Two weeks later the NRA would have 75 million members.

The second time they tried it there would be some limited resistance. Lets see how well his special police handle things when the guns they're seizing are all pointed at them and the ammo is being delivered at just barely sub-sonic speeds. By the 3rd or 4th time they tried to 'cordon things off' there would be open revolt.

It would become a popular uprising complete with sabotage, assassination and trained military personnel who have tossed off their uniforms and are directing an informal but reasonably well supplied underground resistance movement. Shortly after that, faster I think than most people realize, the government would simply collapse. You can't rule 300 million people who are actively refusing to be ruled.

The truth about the 21st century US Army is that it's the most effective fighting force in the world... ever. But at the top, there are more than one or two career military men who are nothing but useless politicians. That the one above is dumb enough to believe he could get away with something like this is testimony to his idiocy. The adage is that you shouldn't get into a land war in Asia. Well lets see how he does with a land war in America where 1/3 the population is nearly as well armed as his infantry.

Even if only 1% of the gun owners were fanatical enough to resist, and they were killed by the Army 10 civilians to 1, the losses for the Army would still be so overwhelming that what's left of the US would be totally ungovernable. And any reasonable military analyst would already know this.

Seriously, this is just stupid. Dangerously stupid. He can forcibly disarm America, but only over his own dead body. The scariest part though is that he's been teaching our Army officer corps how to fight as well. Now that's an idea I find very disturbing. After all, the last revolution we had started when the English crown tried to do precisely what this guy has in mind at Lexington and Concord. You'd think he'd know how that worked out for the British when they were the most powerful Army in the world... ever.
