I was reading about Obama's Arkansas problem,
and something occurred to me. Liberals will endlessly accuse conservatives of racism, and our denials mean nothing because "That's just what you would expect a racist to say." But I wonder if there is anyone - literally a single soul in all of America - who voted against Obama specifically for his race? Was there someone out there who was saying to himself, "I like the whole redistribution of wealth and healthcare nationalization thing, and raising taxes on the most productive seems like it's only fair to me. I'm a lifelong supporter of the Democrats and their policies, and I would normally vote for Obama, I just wish to god he wasn't black!"This sounds ridiculous of course, and it is. And it certainly doesn't sound like a conservative. Conservative are the most reliably colorblind people I know. Some liberals manage it as well, but they are always quick to accuse others. Meanwhile the only people I've ever met who never even think about race are all conservatives.
The fact is, there are lots, and lots, and lots of reasons not to vote for Obama that have nothing to do with his race. But to a liberal, that seem like nothing but code words and excuses coming from conservatives. When you look at it that way it's clear this kind of thinking defies all logic and reason. But those aren't priorities for liberals and it doesn't slow them down at all.
Anyway I was thinking, I wonder if I could put a call out - a sort of solicitation of racism. I'd ask you guys to go to anyone you knew and get them to post their anonymous reasons for objecting to Obama's race right here on this blog. At least then we'd get to hear first hand how it's actually objectionable to someone. We wouldn't just be worried about liberal straw men - the invented criminals of America's racist regime. And we could make it fully anonymous so no one would be afraid to speak up.
But then it occurred to me. If you make it anonymous, then you immediately get liberals who post the kind of racist rants they imagine conservative s would make if they were more honest about their racism. The irony of doing this in the name of honesty while pretending to be conservatives, would be totally wasted on them. To them something like that would seem only fair, and that it "should be" an important part of the political dialog even if it's totally made up.
This is why it's so difficult to have an honest conversation with a liberal. They blend together the real world and the things they imagine as if they can't really tell the difference. Which seems like a shame to me. It would really be helpful if it were possible to engage them honestly.
So anyway, I'm interested. If you guys can find someone who is explicitly objecting to Obama's race then I'd appreciate knowing about it. I don't mean some vague nonsense that liberals think is a 'dog whistle', I means someone who would otherwise vote for Obama but explicitly won't because of his race.
If it's anyone but David Duke's inner circle, I'd be shocked.

Didnt trying to have an open honest conversation about all of this cost Derbs his job?. That sorta causes the rest who would duck under cover. You can't whack a mole if you can't find one.Plus I think most conserves want to put their names on the job they have done.Tom you worked in a field where it was really easy to find who had done what.So did I. Every anesthesia record was right there with my name on it. And as you say --losing a billion dollars in a day was what you called a tuesday. But they could easily find whom that trade and hedge belonged to.So you took it seriously because your word was your name. and vice versa. If the world worked that way we wouldnt be in the doo-doo we are in. Hell , this isnt even your real job(I think) but we all can tell you put pride into it.Sorry I digressed some but I dont think libs really want that talk cause I thnik most don't want to put their name on anything. Instead they will parade behars and mehars? etc as their muppets.Hell, Mike woke me up and I am trying to be a have alittle more pride in my hunt n peck typing.Thanx Mike.
Projection: not just for breakfast any more.
And since I am red green color blind is there anything in that??
You're right, this is not my real job, and I'm not really anonymous on it. If the feds wanted to track me down it would take 2 seconds. Even if a reader wanted to track me down they could, and I have no problem with that. I've only made it difficult enough to discourage my ex girlfriend who tried to kill me with a broken beer bottle for smoking a cigarette in 1988. I don't want to make it too easy for her.
And I agree. Without accountability it all falls apart quickly. Shame though.
Sorry Tom but thats too funny.. I had one hauled off after hiding in a very large Ficus tree with a butcher knife after she thought I had been having sex with 2 of the other guests at my house.Actually this time I was innocent. She was a high school teacher.Gotta love those unions.Basic Instinct set me back a few weeks.Cheers
Tom,
Was the attempt a murder when you broke up with her? Or did you hang in a little longer?
Back in my early 20's, I had some psycho fat chick that told anyone who would listen we were getting married. I wasn't even dating her, nor was I aware what she was saying to others. When the fantasy collapsed, she threatened to have me killed.
Women are scary sometimes...
Actually it wasn't such a big deal. She went on to Harvard Law and actually ran for Secretary of State in Georgia.
I was just using her as an example to make a point.
Actually was a 2nd date.Had dinner party at my house. Her job was potatoes..while she working on that I had gone downstairs for ? 15 minutes getting hot tub ready for after eating fun.. when I came back up she pulled me aside and accused me of tagging a friends wife.It went downhill from there. So the other guests ate and headed for tub while i tried to get her to leave. She did but unknowingly returned . i happened to notice kitchen drawer open and a knife that fit into "block" was gone.ruh roh.So while 8 people hid in a br I went through my house with a pistol until the lab found her in a 10 foot Ficus I had.Yadda yadda yadda and she was hauled away. Eventually i droppped charges. Her last words were I will kill you and your dog.. I was ok with me but when she said dog that hit a nerve,....But never saw her again.Fun times
reflecting on the topic, I am reminded why many dems chose Obama over Hillary.
Remember Hillary did that horrible 'Picaninny' impression at that southern black church?
I think that was when hillary fell off the cliff.
I had alot of dem friends that tried their best to convince me that Obama had experience and qualities beyond that of any candidate. When pressed it was always two things: "Harvard Law Review" and "Community Organizer".
I would continue to ask why these qualities were so unique and durable... nothing.
Turns out that a lot of women voted for Obama because they found him to be young and handsome - women can be strange: see ficus tree story:
a lot of men looking to lock-in a booty call supported the young chicks determination with "Yeah - BO is cool"
It was like the summer of love all over again...
Here is the moment when Hillary lost the primary:

I have to agree but I think a large part was that she had to skirt the race issue so widely that she just couldnt get a good shot in. BHO camp was going to be able to tie anything she said as a subtuxt to race..This was a first for a presidential primary. Its like that ?6 degrees of Kevin Bacon.. Anything she attacked on his camp was going to be able to get to the race card in 6 steps or less. She got so tied up that she never ever got on point..It will be the same with "PE--call me Whale" Romney. If he gets close or a whiff of momentum they will take anything they can to you know where in 6 steps or less.
Tom..I suspect most of the folks on this site live with lawyers constantly watching you and hoping for a mistake. After the police were gone one of my friends said it was good thing they were all there cause if it had just been her and myself and she screamed rape i was gonna be toast for months. The proverbial he said she said. Ever since then I tried to be careful bout putting myyself in "those" situations as much as possible.I suspect most of us have a moment in life where it made you cautious of similar situations for rest of your life. I have a hunch the next time a huge IPO is talked about MS will shudder. Then they will want the fee. But they will cringe
To Ikaika's point, PJ O'Rourke has this running theme that all fashions follow the trend set by pretty girls. Girls follow to be seen as pretty, guys follow because... they're guys.
It was that way with the Vietnam war movement, and my brother said the same thing about the occupy movement the other day.
I even mentioned the two pretty young girls I met who were staying off of facebook.
I don't see the PE thing as a deterrant. I do believe that the Obama Campaign (Axelrod) latched onto this notion that Unemployed AMericans will rally around anti-capitalism. It will back-fire on Team Obama and they will not recover from it.
The rebuttal to 9% unemeployment cannot be: "Well Venture cap is full of vampires". It's absurd.
The average Joe is not going to say "Gee... Venture Cap and Private Equity took our jobs!"
Average joe is gonnna say Obama played golf for 4 years and all I got was tis lousy t-shirt.
Villifying Private Equity is about as effective as Bob Dole going after the NEA.
Romney and repubs need to demonstrate that private equity was there as a lender when none of the banks wanted to... and thanks to Private Eq and Vencap - companies like Home Depot (that hire during hard times) got where they are today because of Ven Cap.
Even Roger Altman - can't wrap his mellon around the attack on Private Equity.
Exactly. "Oh if only we had more bureaucrats to make a bunch more rules and save us from these evil vampire private equity firms."
It's like blaming the poor economy on system administrators. Most people may have heard of them but they don't really have any idea what they do.
The only people who are familiar is those rust belt companies who had their unions drive them into bankruptcy. But since those are the guys that Obama looks to for ideas on 'creating jobs', they think it looms just as large and as contrary to their interests for everyone else in the country too.
Obama's election wasn't a rising tide, it was a perfect storm. If it weren't for all the stars aligning perfectly for him he'd have never been elected the first time.
I have to disagree on the PE thing. I dont believe the average person has any understanding of PE. So they will latch onto rich guy and gutting corporations. All the BHO camp has to do is somehow vaguely tie it into JPM crap and now Facebook debacle.Rich people BAD!!!!.Someone last night did say---Morgan Stanley did what firms do on an IPO.Whats different this time is that the country is seeing what "we" do..Most dont have a clue and thus its greed and bad.. Fear is much easier to illicit thatnhope. Shit way to get elected but effective
Tom.. perfect storm??1--Gas prices dropping like a rock...2--Wall street getting laid out on a platter and it hasnt even started yet.3--Europe crisis that he had no control over(its not my fault) or we would have a good economy.I see that storm again...the only cloud is horrible unemployment but the "number" is better. We all know why but it is still down.
Since Jamie Dimon is a dyed in the wool Democrat, the Administration will have to tread lightly.
In the summer before the election, you have to embrace your biggest donors not crucify them.
... and that is the perfect storm that works against Obama.
Yes but now it all belongs to Obama. Last time he had an inept opposition candidate, a collapsing real estate and financial market, a departing incumbent whose father was also president and was attacked constantly in the press. He was new, unheard of, un-vetted by the media and black. that's what America wanted... change.
Now we want a change back.
BHO would toss his mother off the bridge if it meant getting elected.Dimon is toast...Not burnt crusty toast but just a wee bit overdone toast.. BHO has plenty money. Im sure Soros can toss in a little more.
About the Euro crisis and not Obama's fault, well...
I would make that ideology stick to Obama like dog poo in his sneaker soles on a hot summer day.
four more years and we are greece
Maybe I am not giving the average joe enough credit but in Missourah the few people I come across in dealings have been rocked so hard for > decade that they want stuf left alone.NOT TOUCHED...Fix deficit but dont touch entitlements..Greece is same--want to stay in EU but not austerity.
Ikaika.........I agree with how you try to tie all this to BHO..And I agree that fomo and we are toast. We have a very small window to reenter earth's atmosphere and if we miss--Greece
If you lambaste Dimon, all the fashionable elites that followed Jamie's lead in the voting booth and the dinner party circuit will say: "am I next?"
Soros is big, but not as big Dimon and his cadre of whales.
I think even Soros is having buyer's remorse.
In business terms: when you buy a candidate, you trade out of the position before he can do anymore damage. You'll see Soros contributing to more generic areas of socialist cause.
Sorry to derail.
Keep derailing you are a helluva lot more fun and intelligent than Sorkin and CNBC....I would think that really bad hearings on JPM etc will be held up a sleeve. If things are dicey you will see Carl Levine call for more hearings in late Sept to seel the deal.If BHO looks like a lock then nomo hearings.
Politicians have to tread lightly with "hearings" espescially when they put "donors" and "bundlers" and "backers" in the hot seat.
You'll see more hoopla over FaceBook IPO than JPM losing 2%.
They blew the prime opportunity with Corzine (Gee... I wonder why?) and now they are putting the scalpel to JPM for a 2% loss.
Yeah - idiots in cyberspace will tell you that $2 billion is a lot of money... but kindly remind them that JP has close to $2 TRILLION under management.
If Levin tries to go tit-for-tat with Dimon over Risk management, he (and other politicians in the idiot camp) will be outed as numbskulls. See my thread "An Idiot with an Agenda"
Jamie Dimon is a man of few words and those words are vulgar yet poignant. It will make for must see TeeVee as Sen Levin gets the smug ripped from his mug.
It will be a long overdue beatdown deserved by Senate knuckleheads.
pass the pocorn...
I will defer to your opinion . I have a friend (cardiac surgeon) that enjoys you guys and looking spoon but he says he is a realist and just doesnt see BHO getting the boot.I have to agree. Didnt oil prices fall once Barry said he was going to get rid of speculators???.Hes the man.Didnt he get Osama? Hes the champion for the middle class.Yadda yadda yadda...Mitt needs good veep and some luck.
Two thoughts on this topic and comments train:
1. I didn't date enough women before getting married. I don't really have any psycho exes, or anything similar to the stories you guys have.
2. My mother in law is a dyed-in-the-wool liberal (she is a good Jew). When we went to visit my (deceased) father-in-law's family, who are 1980's Russian immigrants to Queens, she said there are only two problems with this one. "He's not a Jew, and he's a Republican." Their response: You're not a Republican? I informed her that as 1980's Russian immigrants, Reagan was as close to a God as most of these people have seen. Anyway, to return to the topic, she was not going to vote Obama in 2008, but did because McCain was to radically Republican. In the Democratic primary she was assuring my (now Republican committeewoman) wife - it is amazing was facts and logic can do for to a liberal if they are willing to listen - that if it wasn't Hillary, she wouldn't vote in the general. November came and she voted Obama. Not that it would have mattered, as she resides in the People's Republic of Maryland.
Anyway, keep up the good work, and the amusing anecdotes in the comments!
