- The Effect Of "Executive Amnesty" On Business

I have one more comment on this "executive order Amnesty" BS. A lot of people, I among them, have called this an unconstitutional act. I'll leave it to others to decide if it makes political sense for congress to do something about it, but from the perspective of the economy and unemployment, they really had better.

An unconstrained Executive is at least as bad, probably worse, than an unconstrained Congress. It's a signal to American businesses that they are playing a game where the rules can be changed on a whim. I know this particular ruling had nothing to do with punishing business, only punishing the unemployed by giving them 800,000 more people to compete with. But don't think for a minute that business leaders won't be imagining that they're next. It's not like this particular Executive's animus nocendi toward the private sector is an unknown thing.

I've been of the opinion that we're on the brink of a more vigorous recovery. It won't be 8% growth or anything, but assuming the SCOTUS declared Obamacare unconstitutional and slapped the constraints back on Congress, I expected business to be open to dipping a toe back into the risk pool. Couple that to Obama's declining numbers in the polls, and business leaders will begin to believe they have a handle on what the future holds. That would let them begin to quantify their risks, and start looking for new opportunities again.

But now, with literally nothing more than the stroke of a pen, Obama has undone that. He's told American business that Supreme Court or no Supreme Court, he can change the rules of the game as he see's fit, and when he see's fit. And there is nothing that they or anyone else can do to stop him. He's signaled to American business that "Change" really means changing the rules in the middle of the game. And that it won't really be for the good of the country - it will be for the good of a far left leaning presidential candidate and his need for votes. That's a very "banana republic' like way to run the world's largest economy, and our growth rate has reflected that.

So I guess I'm tossing this out there to let those folks in Washington know that this decision of Obama's to grant work permits to illegal aliens, is far more dangerous than it may initially seem. And to remind the Congress that whether they like this President or not, they better do something about this. If they expect we business people to bet on America, they have to let us believe we have at least a small chance of winning. At the very least we need to believe that the referee isn't playing for some other team or with their own agenda. And so long as the rules are changing every day, that isn't going to happen.
