Barak H. Obama:
"If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen for you."
There is a video attached but it's so short it seems like it's being taken out of context. If you read the transcript you see that it isn't. Obama is making the claim that if you have taken all the chances and built your business from scratch, then you didn't actually do it, someone else (meaning the government) made that happen for you. Its the same point Elizabeth Warren has been so energetically making - private enterprise isn't private it's a product of a generous government.
This is why these people are so dangerous. This is what they really believe - everyone in the Washington echo chamber believes it, even most of the Republicans.
I'd love to put a snappy retort in here but I'm too angry. Only a man who has had a free ride his entire life and never had to sacrifice anything, could say something so unbelievably insulting. If he were here in front of me I'm not sure I could resist the urge to spit in his face.

Oh I wish i had gotten mor jobs.Oh I underestimated how bad it was when I came into office.oh oh oh .All the media interviews on him thinking back four years.Theyr trying to make him seem sad and frustrated and wanting to prove he can do it.
This pos doesnt give a rats ass bout anything other than his agenda. We wont survive Fomo and a couple more debt downgrades.Business will not work with him.So Fomo and Fubar.
Thanx with putting up with me today.
Dear Tom:
Much like Mitt Romney, your business looks out for affluent Americans with exotic finances, instead of middle-class workers. Many financial gurus, like Mr. Romney, have not answered questions that lay heavy in minds of all unemployed Americans. "What you have done to keep jobs from being outsourced overseas?"
It seems that all to often my opponents benefit from shady financial deals, like interests rates for mortgages being fixed overseas. The ongoing Department of Justice investigation will not tolerate unanswered questions.
I therefore call upon you to now fully answer the questions on the minds of all Americans. I will not apologize for serving their will.
Sincerely,
Barak
Barak,
The main difference between depends greatly on the priorities of the observer.
You could say that I am a competent investor while you are an incompetent one. I've had only a single year where my investments returned less than 10% to my investors while you have Solyndra, a gaggle of failed Solar panel companies, and a zombie car company that produces a vastly inferior product. So if my investments all lose money I get fired and no one invests with me again, while if yours lose money you can blame it on someone else.
Another way to look at it would be to say that I am a moral person while you are an immoral one. All the people do who business with me do so only of their own free will. The money comes predominantly from pension funds where the outsized gains I provide support the retirement incomes of millions of middle class people. Meanwhile the money you've squandered has been taken from people by force like any other thief. If there were any gains they would have accrued to your campaign contributors and political supporters.
But the thing I think is the biggest difference between you and I is this: My world view is based upon individual responsibility. If I take risks and if I lose, I bear the burden of those losses but if I win I get the bulk of the benefit. While in your world, you make the decision as a third party. If you're wrong (and as a third party you're almost certain to be), it's other people who will pay the price for your shortsightedness, your foolishness, or your imprudence.
For conservatives like me, men and women who have learned how to make decision that lead to success, the big question about you is not whether your ideas will lead to success or failure. They're old ideas. We know it will lead to failure for you, the same as it have for everyone else who's ever trued them. The question for us is whether you know it or not. If you don't, then you're just a hapless fool ruining his country by mistake. If you do, then you're an evil man destroying his country on purpose.
That too would be a difference between you and me.
Funny, I don't find this a very rewarding exercise at all. I don't enjoy argument for it's own sake and I don't see anyone learning anything from this.
There is no changing anyone's mind on a topic like this and I lack the talent to defend an entire worldview.
If Frithguild unearths an Obama response I'm afraid I'll just have to let him have the last world.
In other words, I'm picking other battles.
Sad - I've had neo-libs try to tell me that all business and all commerce was the spawn of governement, and had it not been for the benevolence of government I wouldn't have the ability to "choose" my vocation.
I like to say to them: "If government created my job, then who created the government?"
it goes deeper - I often get told that the existence of regulatory bodies neccessitates the diversity of markets... I am embarrassed for them when they utter this stuff.
This is what I call the unanswered question gambit. It increases your opponents negatives and it works best if they respond to it because that validates and elevates the one asking the question.
The side that does the answering spends energy thinking about the answer, and not about what may be more important to the campaign "If you march fifty LI in order to outmaneuver the enemy, you will lose the leader of your first division, and only half your force will reach the goal."
According to the news reports, yesterday Mitt spent time with his grandchildren and sitting outside with his iPad. He is waiting for polling data.
Shamelessly stealing and probably misremembering a line I saw on Twitter:
So small business owners get no credit for their risk and sacrifice, but Obama gets all the credit for killing Bin Laden.
