While the left ponders the many ways in which the current tragedy in Colorado can be used to strip Americans of their rights, our man Derb has an entirely different 'Gun Problem". Who among us in gun culture hasn't been in a situation like his?

LOL!
I have been breaking down and rebuilding fishing reels lately because I am like my father that "they don't make them like they used to..."
Therefore I must take my 30 year-old penn 550 SS, my 40 year-old Penn 500 Jigmaster and my 20 year-old Shimano CT 200 and completely tear them apart only to re-assemble them with new $5 parts...
There are local "tinkers" that can handle the task, but what good is that tinker when you are lost in the wilderness with a malfunctioning baitcasting reel?
I have done this to shotguns, rifles (the Saiga is easy to strip, but to modify you literally need to bash it with a hammer!).
My fondest rebuild was my Ruger double-action revolver. That wasn't easy, but was entirely neccessary.
Ah... Russian engineering (Saiga)...
... "and when you run out of ammo you can still beat a man to death with it."
Quote an ex-Russian paratrooper to me when I was praising the hardy engineering of the AK47.
I completely stripped my izmash saiga 7.62x39 down to parts.
after pumping a few thousand rounds I decided to replace the stock with a crapco collapsable (really not bad at all!).
I was going to put an israeli style foregrip on it, but what PITA removing the stock parts espescially after caked on filth!.
Shot much better after the cleaning.
My WASR has the Beech lacquered stocks which I prefer to the laminate. I think it looks most like the original soviet... and there will be no collapsible stock for me in NJ (as you well know).
