The weather now may give roads and bridges crowd something to think about. Robert Morley talks in this piece about the value of the Mississippi, Missouri, Red, Arkansas and Ohio complex, which are located in the heart of some of the most fertile plains in the world. We can certainly say to the government, "You didn't build that."
The point here is that barge groundings may tweak agricultural prices going into this fall. I'm sure the CBOT guys are on this. I don't think it is on the radar of the political strategists. The drought may be a factor adding to the "unfortunate malaise and discontent motivating voters on election day."

The CBOT guys are all over the drought. Take a look at the price history on corn.
Having been raised next to it and watch my hometown flooded by it every spring the mighty Miss is surprisingly shallow in a good year.
If this weather pattern persisted for a few years the water rights fights would become real interesting.
