- The Problem With Social Justice

Many of my fellow Catholics are fundamentally wrong about the intersection of politics and the church's social teachings. Here is the rub:

But that word—voluntarily—is key, and it's where Mr. Ryan's religious detractors go awry: Charity can only be charity when it is voluntary. Coerced acts, no matter how beneficial or well-intentioned, cannot be moral. If we force people to give to the poor, we have stripped away the moral component, reducing charity to mere income redistribution. And if one really is as good as the other, the Soviets demonstrated long ago that it can be done far more efficiently without the trappings of church and religion.

They will no doubt object the mention of the Soviets with regard to their views, but if the shackle fits....

I love this time of the year cause I get to watch kids actually playing a game for the fun of it in the LLWS. There is an African team here now for the first time in history..Its the Uganda team..They very well may be the most polite group of 12 yos that you will ever encounter. They are eating french toast for first time evr. same for sloppy joes..They are rooming with the kids from Indiana. So here is charity as it should be.....

Thanx Tom.. This is country to country without gov involvement. I cant imagine if BHO was involved. Itd be those gloves are made of leather so we have to find the dead cows they came from and quarantine the gloves for 6 months and God forbid baseball spikes. They could be deadly.blah blah.
The Ugandan kid was so funny. he said"at first they said we were having sloppy joes for dinner and I said sloppy does not sound good. Then I tried one and they were veeeery good!"
At least a couple times a day I see good in the world and I look up and smile and say "ok God you got me". those look up times make it worthwhle.
