This is an unusually good Zerohedge piece (mentioned by Frith in a comment) that explains some of the inescapable reality of our current fiscal situation. We are recession bound, and not strong enough to put up much fight.

Let's just see how the democrat party deals with this. I just hope that federal support for the higher education incubator ends. Support for education will not end in a broad stroke. Conservatives should draw a line with support for hard science and technology - no public support for social sciences.
They'll find an Emmanuel Goldstein to fill the void.
It is just so disappointing when you realize how easily people are led into statism.
