- Here's A Racist Comment For Ya

I drove up to Boston and back this weekend, so it was a lot of mileage on some of America's busiest highways. Rt 95 around New Haven is particularly known for the number of rude drivers who are happy to go 50 miles per hour in the fast lane while a line of cars stacks up three miles deep behind them. But I live in NJ where subtlety is not a problem. So by using high beams, my horn and sometimes the highway shoulder, I usually found a way to fight to the front of the line and pass the clueless miscreant in question.

I don't know what it was, but for some reason on this trip 100% of the people I found doing the 50 mph fast lane dance were black. Are blacks particularly poor drivers? I don't know. I've certainly never heard anyone say so. These drivers were of both genders, a variety of ages, and even seemed to be of differing economic conditions, so I don't think they had anything else in common. But one thing that was absolutely certain was that they either didn't notice or didn't care that they were inconveniencing hundreds of people.

I've always been under the impression that racism had to have something to do with a preexisting negative bias. I know nothing at all about Black people's driving skills, so I don't think this quite makes the grade. But since my daughter calls me a racist every time I put creamer in my coffee, I'm sure I'm letting myself in for something just by noticing what all these impolite drivers had in common.

I must say though, whatever you want to accuse me of for noticing it in the first place, I find that kind of rudeness infuriating. I don't care how fast you go. You don't have to go the speed I want to go at all. But have the good manners to at least get out of other people's way.

When it comes to bad driving, nobody beats the Indians.. Though Asian women in general can be pretty awful.

I think "Keep Right Pass Left" signs should be posted every 1/2 mile in the center median of every Interstate Highway. Any state that does not post the same signs in a similar array should not get any federal highway money of any kind whatsoever.

Obstructing traffic is just about the only violation that drivers commit with regular impunity and total ignorance of the illegality of it.

I've found that if you just give them a little bump with your front bumper they move right over. Just enough of a tap so they know you're there.

For some reason they're usually swearing at me when I go by, but what do you expect from such rude people.

I think they're letting you know who's in charge now.

I've noticed similar behavior at fast-food drive-throughs... especially and lunch time: several minutes to order.

Don't they have to get back to work?
