- Imagine A Movie Comes Out

Imagine a new movie comes out and on the first day the ticket sales are meager. The producers get together and say to themselves, "a lot of people look at ticket sales before deciding which movie to see. Let's buy up all the tickets to bump our movie up in the stats." So the rich guys descend, and buy up all the tickets.

The scalpers are the ones who see this first. They buy a few tickets too and manage to pass a few off onto their customers - enough to make a small profit. Those customers, feeling silly about having sat in an empty movie theater, talk up the 'ticket sales' story and rave about the movie so they can seem like they're ahead of the fashion curve. Eventually, through determination of the producers and word of mouth, a few more people start buying tickets.

Does this mean the movie is awful? Not at all. It may actually be the best movie out right now. You will probably be entertained and you may even feel it was worth it. But it certainly doesn't mean the movie theater is as crowded as everyone is saying, or as the stats would seem to indicate.

Imagine a movie where the TSA allows knives again on flight after 11 years of not. Imagine the pilots all locked away safely but a 3 inch knife hacking your carotid artery while you are sleeping on the pillow they charged you $5 for. Imagine that the idiots that have changed this policy actually had a fu... brain.. Sorry......

My post was about the markets Chess but I'm not allowed to say anything too specific, so I'm trying to make a broader point analogously.

Are you just ranting about the TSA?
